How does the basic dining plan works?

All of the meal credits for each member of your party are added together on your resort room key. Your room key is linked to your reservation.  Here is how it works:  For a  family of 4 staying  for 5 nights, you'll have a total of 20 table service credits to use. Credits are not designated as "adult" or "child" credits -- they are all the same. If you are meeting someone for dinner that is not on your reservation you can pay for thier meal with your key.

You can use the meal credits whenever you want during the vacation. If you want to eat two table service meals one day and three counter service meals the next day, no problem.

The portions are large at Disney so you may want to consider sharing some of the counter service meals and therefore stretching the value. For instance, a family of four might try ordering two adult counter service meals and sharing the food, possibly supplementing the meal by purchasing a few a la carte items (like extra side orders or drinks). If this works for you, you may be able to stretch your counter service meals to cover two meals a day! Table service meals can not be shared.

If you don't want the drink that is included with your counter service meal, take a bottle of water or juice to go.

Fresh fruit can be used as a dessert, and would make a great snack item or breakfast addition the next day.  Or at the end of your stay use the fruit for the trip home.

You can also use the snack portion of the plan for things like rice krispie treats, fruit, chips or bottled fruit juice and use these for the trip home also.

What Can You Get With Snack Credits?

Snacks can be redeemed at quick service or snack cart locations only. Quick-service and snack cart locations display a "dining plan" logo on their menus indicating items for which you can use your snack credits.

Snack choices have become much better since the dining plan was first introduced. Now, it seems most items up to $4, with a few exceptions such as a slice of pizza, are covered under the plan.

Among the items now available with Dining Plan snack credits:

  • Frozen Items: Ice cream novelty,  ice cream sundaes, ice cream floats or frozen fruit bar
  • Drinks: 12 oz soft drink, 20 oz Powerade, 24 oz bottle of water,  bottled fruit juice, flavored milk
  • piece of fruit
  • snack-sized bag of chips, nachos or box of popcorn
  • smoothies
  • bakery items or Mickey rice krispy treats
Also, during the 2006 Food & Wine Festival, your credits may be redeemed for some of the "tasting portions" offered in the booths around World Showcase.

Some people find that they don't need all of the snacks on the plan, especially since there is a great deal of fool (and left overs) from the counter service and table service meals. Some choose to use the credits to purchase bottles of water or sodas. Another option is to use your snack credits for food to take with you on your return drive (or flight) home. The possibilities for this include bags of chips, pretzels, cookies or bakery items.

Walt Disney World definitely has some of the best dining. And, like Walt Disney World, the dining plan is always changing. New restaurants are added all of the time, and, unfortunately some of our old favorites are dropped.  But no matter where you dine you will have great food that is weill prepared and delicious.
